ITAC Advanced Manufacturing Workshop Series in partnership with Rochester Institute of Technology COE-ASM & IBM
ITAC is hosting a workshop on Digital Manufacturing – Transforming the Manufacturing Value Chain. Join us to discuss the Internet of Things (IoT) and IoT-enabled smarter manufacturing and what they mean for small and medium-sized manufacturers. Attendees will learn about the importance and benefits of digital manufacturing, the current state of digital technology and examples of digital manufacturing solutions.
The workshop will feature industry experts:
- Michael Thurston, Ph.D., Director of the NY State Center of Excellence in Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing and Technical Director at the Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology
- Dr. Akram Bou-Ghannam, Solution Architect – IBM Watson IoT Group
Digital Manufacturing (DM) uses an integrated, computer-based system composed of simulation, 3D visualization, analytics and various collaboration tools to create product and manufacturing process definitions simultaneously in a cyber-secure environment. Design innovation is the ability to apply these technologies, tools and products to re-imagine the entire manufacturing process from end to end.
Benefits of Digital Manufacturing include: reduced time and cost of manufacturing; improvement of product, process, and enterprise performance; and across-the-board cost savings regardless of industry sector.
The federal government, working through the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation, has formed the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute (or “DMDII”) to conduct applied research to mature the state of the digital manufacturing technologies. We encourage you to take this opportunity to join the global revolution focused on the use of data and information to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of manufacturing operations.
