Elegant Garments

“We can truly handle every type of order, and literally take care of every single step in our own space.”

Rebecca ChanCEO

“I’ve always been part of the fashion industry.”

Raised in a family with deep roots in the fashion industry, Rebecca Chan decided to follow a similar career path, and left her native China twenty years ago to make it in New York City. At the time, she had many contacts and friends in the Garment District and decided to settle there to deepen her knowledge of fashion. Shortly after, she opened her own fashion manufacturing and tailoring studio: Elegant Garments Inc.

“We can truly handle every type of order, and literally take care of every single step in our own space.”

Since its inception, Elegant Garments Inc. has collaborated with emerging and established domestic and international designers, helping bring their creative visions to life. Rebecca and her team start each engagement by pairing designers with an expert tailor for a one-on-one complimentary consultation, during which both process and pricing are discussed in detail. Elegant Garments Inc. offers a comprehensive range of services including marking and grading, pattern and sample making, small batch and mid-sized full production. The company produces all silhouette styles using a large variety of fabrics, such as knits, leather, denim, and many more. Thanks to Rebecca’s husband also owning an adjacent facility offering custom and digital printing, Elegant Garments can truly address all of its customers’ needs.

“Our hope is that emerging designers launch their lines in the coming months.”

Several challenges have come up over the years, influencing the ways in which Elegant Garments operates. From the threat of foreign competition, to the shrinking pool of available talent, and most recently COVID, Elegant Garment has overcome significant hurdles, repeatedly proving its resilience. The pandemic forced the company to shut down until July 2020, when Rebecca and her team decided to reopen and produce Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in order to both help the New York City community and keeping all staff employed. Since then, Elegant Garments has stopped producing PPE as many clients have restarted production. Rebecca plans on winning her pre-pandemic business back, and is also working on securing large production orders from emerging designers. Focusing on digital marketing and selling her services online will definitely part of the equation, as she is confident that increased online traffic will help the business in the fast-paced world of fashion.
