Studio Practice

“We don’t just build. We solve the whole thing.”

Alexander KuzioCo-Founder

Alex Kuzio and Chris Gatton spent years working side by side — Alex on special projects, and Chris leading project management.

With deep roots in high-end millwork shops and a track record of delivering complex builds, they had already solved dozens of challenges together before launching Studio Practice in 2018. “It felt natural,”, they recall. “We were already a team. We wanted to build something of our own, and realized we were stronger together.”

They started Studio Practice with a few trusted clients and a tight network of collaborators who knew what they could deliver. The work came quickly: designers and contractors who didn’t just need fabrication – they needed smart, end-to-end solutions. That’s what Studio Practice became known for then, and it’s what drives the studio today.

“Moving changed everything. We went from a small team doing great work to a real operation with the tools and talent to take on bigger, more complex builds. It felt like a bet on ourselves, and it paid off.”

In 2024, the company moved into a new 20,000-square foot facility in the Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center – a turning point that unlocked new scale and capability. Today, the team includes more than 40 engineers, craftsmen, and finishers working across wood, metal, plastics, and upholstery. Everything is handled in-house: design development, 3D modeling, prototyping, fabrication, finishing, and installation.

“We’re the ones who figure it out when no one else can,” says Alex. “That’s what people come to us for.”  The team is known for handling challenges that require both precision and creativity; as for the shop, it is also built to handle complex projects at scale, with equipment for CNC routing, thermoforming, mold making, custom finishing, and more. For clients managing multi-site rollout or phased installs, Studio Practice also offers off-site storage and logistics support.

The company’s goal is simple. Deliver great work and be the most trusted millwork partner in the city. “We want to make great things with great people,” says Alex. “And we want to be proud of what we leave behind.”

Studio Practice collaborates with architects, designers, builders, and brand teams on a wide range of projects — from national retail rollouts to high-end interiors, sculptural facades, branded environments, museum exhibits, and public installations. Still, it’s residential projects that Alex favors. “When someone lives in the space, they experience every detail. That kind of work just feels different. It’s the hardest — but the most rewarding.”

When Alex and Chris relocated the company, they doubled their footprint – unlocking space to invest in new equipment, expand the team, and strengthen project management systems. The goal wasn’t just to grow – it was to build the kind of structure that could scale without sacrificing the quality they’re known for. This expansion laid the foundation for long-term success, one impeccably executed project at a time.

At Studio Practice, trust is built the same way their projects are – one detail at a time.
